Langermann's Review

Langermann’s is a southern inspired restaurant located in the heart of Canton, Maryland.  The restaurant is divided into multiple sections.  There is a bar immediately to the left of the entrance with big TVs, perfect to watch games.  To the right is the main 1st floor dining area.  They do have overflow seating upstairs.  The décor is both industrial and cosmopolitan but somehow remains cozy and comfortable.  There are lots of exposed brick walls and lots of huge windows.  There are bright red panels and columns accenting the space.  Because of all the windows and bright colors the restaurant is very well lit even in the evening.  Langermann’s is a great spot for almost any occasion.  It’s a great place to meet up with friends after work, or to go with the guys to watch a game.  It is also a great spot to take friends or family for a celebration.  In the evening it is a great date spot.  They do offer a kid’s menu. However, we have never seen kids there. Maybe they are there during the day.  The prices at Langermann’s range from $16 - $27 for a main course.  Parking is not bad at all because they have public parking at the can company including a free garage next door.  The service at Langermann’s is superb.  The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.  Their recommendations about the menu can be trusted.

The food at Langermann’s is hearty and delicious.  There are lots of rich, southern sauces and bold, spicy flavors.  One of their specialties is heirloom grits that hail from the mountains of Georgia.  If you are a grits lover you have to try Langermann’s grits.  Chef Neal is the reigning king of cooking meat to perfection.  Whether it is fish or meat, he can cook that carcass perfectly.  Langermann’s fall menu is exactly what the doctor ordered on a cold fall or winter night.  The food is rich, hearty and deliciously heavy.  Langermann’s is a must try.  Overall we give Langermann’s ♪♪♪ and a half note.

Tuna Crab Tartar

Chef Neal mixed together sushi grade tuna, jumbo lump crabmeat, mango and cilantro with a spicy avocado dressing and gently seated it on the lap of a garden of seaweed.  This creamy, light, refreshing and DELICIOUS tartar was literally one of the best we have ever had. The creaminess of the avocado dressing complimented the smoothness of the buttery, soft tuna.  The seaweed salad was tender and added a wonderful ocean flavor.  Mango provided a wonderful sweetness while cilantro added a fresh herbaceousness.

Cape Fear Scallops

Ok guys, these scallops are served with the best grits you will ever eat….SERIOUSLY!  These grits are smooth, creamy, light and fluffy.  They are served with a buttery clam broth accented with bacon, scallions and tomatoes.  This sauce will make you pee your pants.  It is ridiculous!  All aspects of the dish perfectly complimented the scallops, which were seared to perfection.

Pecan Crusted Salmon with Honey Rum Glaze

Ok, so there is good news about this dish and bad news.  The good news is this dish was AMAZING and a true indication of how good the food is.  The bad news is you can’t have it because it was a special the chef offered the night we were there…poor you.  That being said, the salmon was wonderfully charred, with a butter finish and a fresh ocean flavor.  The crumbled pecans on top added a nice crunch and when added with the sweetness of the honey rum glaze, it put you in the mind of a cinnamon roll.  The mashed potatoes in this dish were light, fluffy and well-seasoned just like the grits.

Maple Smokehouse Rubbed Duroc Pork Chop

This was a thick cut pork chop that had been seared to a perfect medium temperature.  It had an amazing smoky flavor reminiscent of ham.  It was so tender and the maple sauce added a slightly sweet and tart accent to the dish.  It was served with Macon county baked beans that appeared to have been pan fried, causing them to be a bit al dente.  The beans needed a little something added to them like bacon or something with a rich flavor.  However they were rather tasty as they were.

Heath Bar Chocolate Mousse

Served in a parfait glass, the chef layered a dark chocolate mousse with crumbled heath bar.  It was rich, yummy and delicious.

Conversation Topic:  To have a man or not have a man… that is the question?

Angela: So, one of us is about to be married and one of us will still be single.

Melissa: Not for long, Not for long.

Angela: I would be ecstatic to find the right one, but I am also perfectly happy single.  So what would the right man have to look like, as part of a couple, for me to even be interested in being in a relationship?

Melissa: <smiles> That’s interesting. What would that look like?

Angela: Well, he would have to not get on my nerves, for at least the first month, like not at all, seriously not once <laughing>.

Melissa: That’s impossible. Just like women, men are only human.

Angela: <laughing> He could manage it for a month.

Melissa: What it would take is that he would have to bring something to your life that you do not already have. And because your life is so full it would have to be someone really amazing.

Angela: So what I should say is that what he brings to the table would have to be something so much more amazing than all the little annoying things.

Angela and Melissa: So our advice to all you single women out there is not to settle for any old thing, but to be whole within yourself and to fill your life with richness. And then when you find that one that adds to that, open up your heart and let him in.

Friends, let us know your thoughts…
