Welcome to Sascha's 527 Cafe

Sascha’s 527 Café is nestled in the heart of Mt. Vernon on historic Charles Street. The chefs describe the food this way, “Creative American, with global touches from Asia to France, and Morocco in between.” They serve lunch and dinner Monday – Friday and dinner only on the weekends. If you are in the neighborhood you definitely should check them out.

My name is Melissa and quite honestly I LOVE food, I mean really really love it! I consider myself a true foodie. I have been touted an adventurous eater; I have yet to meet the food I refuse to try. There is only one food that I can think of that I do not like and that is Liver. It smells and tastes great I just don’t like the fact that it gets bigger the more you chew it, that’s just strange to me. If I had to pick a style of cuisine that appeals to me the most I would have to say anything Asian (Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese). The various spices, preparation styles, and ingredients greatly appeal to my palate. My friends and I eat out often and love to explore new restaurants as they pop up around Maryland. On those rare occasions when I am not eating, I am a Mental Health Therapist/Social Worker by trade. I work with children, families and couples. Helping people grow and become more insightful is unbelievably rewarding and fun. I have to admit I love what I do. I know that is rare in this day and time so I consider myself blessed. In between eating and working, I enjoy traveling, going to the theater, the movies, reading, working out (I have to with all the eating I do) and last but definitely not least going to Church. I have to thank God for all the yummy food and all my other blessings.

Ok, my name is Angela and I am a food connoisseur and an all around nut. If I were an actual nut, I would be a macadamia nut. For those of you who do not know much about the macadamia nut, the macadamia tree produces these nuts only after it is 7-10 years old and requires fertile soil and heavy rainfall to do so. Macadamia nuts themselves have a very hard seed which when opened reveals a creamy white kernel containing 80% oil and 4% sugar. At more the $30 a kilogram it is the most expensive nut in the world and incidentally a favorite of my mother. Wait…I digress, I am a single 34 year old mixed; part African American part Puerto Rican female; fun fabulous and fascinating. I am 5 foot 1 (never mind how much I weigh) with brown eyes and sandy brown hair that falls a few inches below my shoulders. I like to think of myself as curvy, sexy and sassy. I would one day like to have a husband and kids but unlike most of the women I know I can happily do without as well. I do not troll the bars for dates (just the best drinks). I live my life to the fullest with an eye towards doing all the fun and fascinating things this world has to offer before I die. Now in comparing myself to that nut, I am not saying that I am too expensive to have, just that I take good care of myself and I know my own worth. For now, let us just say, I love to eat (as this blog will attest to), travel, eat, hang out with my girls and talk about everything under the sun and eat. Moreover, occasionally, I like to be alone to enjoy my own company, and the peace and quiet that comes from communing with my world, my Lord and my cat…her name is Misty…and eat. J
